Popcorn Palace Issues Allergy Alert on 1-Gallon Value Bag Products

To our valued Fundraising Customers:

This recall applies to all 12 popcorn flavors available in the 1-gallon Value Bag.

We have been distributing these products with a round label that identifies the flavor of the popcorn (e.g., “Cheddar Cheese,” “Rainbow,” “Caramel Nut,” etc.), our name “POPCORN PALACE,” and our web address “www.popcornpalace.com” on each bag. Along with this we have been supplying an information sheet containing the nutrition information, ingredient information, and allergen information for all of our popcorn products.

We have recently been advised by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that consumers could receive the product without the information sheet or the information sheet could be separated from the product and not be available to provide critical allergen information to those persons that are allergic to ingredients in these products. We had not considered this possibility and we agree with FDA’s position. While, for most people these ingredients are perfectly safe and healthy, for persons who are allergic to these ingredients, not knowing that they are present could result in a life threatening allergic reaction if they consumed them.

Therefore we request that you immediately stop distribution of all flavors in the 1-gallon Value Bag size, mark them “RECALLED – Not For Distribution,” and place them in quarantine.

Take an inventory of what you have remaining in stock and fill out the attached spreadsheet and return via email to mailto:info@popcornapalace.com?subject=Food%20Recall%20Inquiry or fax to 847.801.5325. Once we receive your inventory counts we will overnight labels for you to apply to the back of the value bags. The labels will contain the flavor name, product ingredients and critical allergen information.

If you have any questions you may contact Customer Service by telephone at 800-873-2676 or by email at mailto:info@popcornapalace.com?subject=Food%20Recall%20Inquiry.

Sincerely,
Timothy J Heitmann

Popcorn Predicament

I placed the order for missing popcorn items and was informed by the Popcorn Palace person that they do not send popcorn via expedited shipping.  I was a little flummoxed, shocked, and amazed that a company wouldn't offer this option.  ?   Have you ever ordered online and not had several expedited shipping options?  So, I'm a little worried that the popcorn won't make it before the break.  Students should check with me daily next week to find out if the popcorn shipment arrived yet.

Whew.  This year's popcorn adventure has been a huge learning experience.  Congratulations to the students for making this a big success!

David Garrett free sound check!! E-mail Mrs. Neidhold

On January 20th at the Grand Sierra Resort  David Garrett is going to open his sound check rehearsal to WCSD orchestra students. If you would like to attend this event please let me know ASAP. They have enough openings for about 100 students to attend but I do not know how many Billinghurst students they will allow. I do not know the time of the sound check as of today but it likely will be around 4 PM in the GRS theater.
If you would like to attend the sound check, Email Mrs. Neidhold at:

Plenty 'O Popcorn

Wow!!!!!  Everyone did such a fantastic job of selling popcorn.  Thank you to all the industrious students who helped make our fundraiser a HUGE success.

The students sold $12,000 in popcorn which should give us a profit of about $5000!  This is our most successful fundraiser ever and will really help the trip to the Music in the Parks Festival and the Beginning Orchestra field trip to hear the Reno Philharmonic Youth Symphony's Young People's Concert.

Congratulations to Colin Gibbons for being our top seller at $625 in popcorn.  The order forms for prizes are due on Thursday and we will have the drawing for the $100 Visa card next week.

Way to go!

This is what the orchestra room looked like once the popcorn was all unpacked and sorted by flavor.

Wren & Pietra Brady help get orders ready.

Max Neidhold and Beyer Brady take a break to smile for the camera.

Clio Brady hard at work.

This is what the orchestra room looked like at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.  Mrs. Neidhold had to leave the building by 11 p.m. so she worked fast to make sure the room could have classes the next day.

Welcome to the Billinghurst Orchestra Blog

Congratulations, you made it to the blog.  Remember to put the date and time you were on the blog and have your parents sign the sheet.  If you are in the library, please ask Ms. Coulihan to initial your page.  Please, PLEASE don't interrupt her, but politely ask for a moment of her time.

The purpose of this assignment is so you will know where to find A LOT of information about Billinghurst Orchestras.  You know, it's 9 p.m. and your parents say, "Aren't you supposed to do XXXX for orchestra?" and you say, "Uh, I don't know."?  You can look up a lot of stuff in this blog, so keep reading.

Here are the questions you are supposed to answer for the homework:

1.  Join the blog.  See the blue button on the right that says "Join this site"?  You might have to open a new e-mail account or go through a few steps to join.  If you aren't able to join, please write the reason why it didn't work on your homework.

2.  Look on the right again.  See the words, "Blog Archive"?  That means old articles and information that has been posted on the blog.  Click on

This form is required for a grade
    Behavior Contr

If you haven't filled out your Behavior Contract yet, please print this out, read it, sign it, get your parents to read and sign it and then turn it in.  Write on your homework whether you have already turned this in or if you printed it out and you are going to turn it in.

3.  Name one person in your class who is in the A+ club.

4.  Read the article entitled, "Grading - First Quarter".  List two things students have been forgetting with their practice sheets.

If you have any suggestions for the blog, please be sure to let Mrs. Neidhold know.

Grading - First Quarter

Hi All -  This is what I did with my holiday weekend.  Please, please turn in your Practice Sheets on time.  I would hate to have to change my policy about accepting late practice sheets.

Some things that students are forgetting:
*  Reading direction.  I could say that again about 210 times.
*  Parent signatures.
*  Adding up their time.
*  HOMEWORK!!!  On the back side of every practice sheet is homework.  I have tried to make the homework short and easy.  Some students are having trouble and they haven't come and asked me for help.  Please ask.
*  Turning in their Practice Sheets in the correct folder.  Look for your period number and the words, "Turn in Practice Sheets" on the file tab.

I'm looking forward to having even more Practice Sheets to grade the next quarter!

JHO - Rehearsal Information

JHO
Washoe County Schools Junior Honor Orchestra

Dear Students and Parents:

Congratulations!  to the students who have been selected as a member of the 2012 Washoe County Schools Junior Honor Orchestra. Please read the following guidelines and enclosed rehearsal schedule.

1.      Rehearsals will be held at Reno High School on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00. Please arrive as close to 3:30 as possible to get tuned and ready to play. Attendance will be taken at each rehearsal. Since the success of the group depends upon all members attending every rehearsal and concert, attendance is required. No unexcused absences will be accepted. If you miss a rehearsal you could lose your seat or/and be excluded from the concert.  Please e-mail Mr. Mariani or Ms. Jamison ahead of time if you expect to be delayed or absent: amariani@washoeschools.net, or mjamison@washoeschools.net.
2.      No food, gum or drinks are allowed in the rehearsal rooms.
3.      Students will be restricted to the rehearsal rooms and the hallway (where the restrooms are located).
4.      All Washoe County School District rules apply to students in JHO at rehearsals, concerts, and tours.
5.      When the conductor is in front of the group no talking or playing will be allowed. We have a large group and our rehearsal time is limited so we need to keep focused on the job at hand.
6.      Seating will be determined from the audition. After that, the conductor reserves the right to move students for the benefit of the ensemble. Other sectionals during the year may or may not result in additional seating changes.
7.      Please prepare your music at home each week. Home practice is the responsibility of each member and is expected.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

There is a $20.00 fee to participate in JHO. This will help cover the cost of music, copying, t-shirts, and other expenses.  The fee is collected by your school’s orchestra director.

We hope you enjoy your JHO experience and we look forward to a great season with all of you.

Coordinators:            Alec Mariani (Spanish Springs High School and Shaw Middle School)
                                    Marsha Jamison (Swope Middle School)
