Theory History Homework 5 Q4 Due May 28th Composition Project

Theory History Homework 5 Q4                 Due: May 28, 2013
Composition
You are going to write a short song.  This is something you make up yourself and then write it down on the staff below.  Mrs. Neidhold will play some of the songs in class.
Here are the rules of this assignment –
1.       It must be at least 8 measures long in 4/4 time, 12 measures long in ¾ time or 16 measures long in 2/4 time.
2.       You have to write with clear notation so that Mrs. Neidhold can understand your music.
3.       You must have the correct number of beats in each measure.
4.       You must be able to play your song (but you won’t be required to play it for Mrs. Neidhold.)

Steps –
1.       Draw your clef at the beginning of each line.
2.       Write the time signature on the first line.
3.       If you know the key signature, write it in at the beginning of each line.
4.       Improvise on your instrument to start your song.  When you have music you like, try writing down the music on the staff below.
5.       Use bar lines to separate each bar and a double bar at the end.
6.       If you have questions about how to write down music, look at your school music for examples.
7.       Remember: note heads are approximately one space in size, stems of notes are three spaces long and stems go down for note heads on the middle line and above and up for note heads on the middle line and below.

Make your own staff paper by using the underline key.  Staffs are five lines.  Or, download staff paper at this link:
