PG-13 Permission Slip for Advanced Orchestra

Permission Slip for PG-13 Movie
The Advanced Orchestra will be watching the movie “Avengers” on May 28th and 30th during class.   The purpose of watching this movie is for the students to hear the themes and music we performed at out Spring Concert and to celebrate a wonderful 8th grade year including winning the top prize for orchestra at the Music in the Parks Festival.
Here is the information on the movie from Common Sense Media:
Avengers:  Heroes work together in explosive comic book adventure.
Recommended Age 13

What parents need to know - Parents need to know that The Avengers is a highly anticipated superhero adventure in which many of Marvel's major superheroes -- including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) -- come together to battle an otherworldly enemy in a war to the end. From the first scene on, there's virtually nonstop comic book mayhem, including advanced weapons, epic-scale battle scenes, and thousands of casualties. Some of the fights are deeply personal as relatives face off, and some people do die, including characters the audience will care about. The heroes sometimes discuss their motivations for fighting crime, and the discussions can be intense, though it also leads to a good deal of camaraderie and cooperation. Expect some swearing ("ass," "son of a bitch," etc.), plenty of snarky quips from Iron Man, an off-hand joke about adoption that could upset some families, and intense 3-D action.

Theory History Homework 5 Q4 Due May 28th Composition Project

Theory History Homework 5 Q4                 Due: May 28, 2013
Composition
You are going to write a short song.  This is something you make up yourself and then write it down on the staff below.  Mrs. Neidhold will play some of the songs in class.
Here are the rules of this assignment –
1.       It must be at least 8 measures long in 4/4 time, 12 measures long in ¾ time or 16 measures long in 2/4 time.
2.       You have to write with clear notation so that Mrs. Neidhold can understand your music.
3.       You must have the correct number of beats in each measure.
4.       You must be able to play your song (but you won’t be required to play it for Mrs. Neidhold.)

Steps –
1.       Draw your clef at the beginning of each line.
2.       Write the time signature on the first line.
3.       If you know the key signature, write it in at the beginning of each line.
4.       Improvise on your instrument to start your song.  When you have music you like, try writing down the music on the staff below.
5.       Use bar lines to separate each bar and a double bar at the end.
6.       If you have questions about how to write down music, look at your school music for examples.
7.       Remember: note heads are approximately one space in size, stems of notes are three spaces long and stems go down for note heads on the middle line and above and up for note heads on the middle line and below.

Make your own staff paper by using the underline key.  Staffs are five lines.  Or, download staff paper at this link:
