Washoe County Schools Junior Honor Orchestra

AUDITION INFORMATION 2011-12

The Washoe County Junior Honor Orchestra provides an extra ensemble opportunity for accomplished middle and elementary school string students from across the district. If you are enrolled in your WCSD zoned school orchestra program, grade 6-8, you may audition. Home School, Charter School, and Private School students may audition if they are enrolled in their WCSD zoned school orchestra program. The auditions will be on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 2:30-5:00 at Sparks Middle School.  If you are chosen to participate, there will be a $20 participation fee. This fee includes the JHO T-shirt and helps defray the cost of the music.

All rehearsals will be on Wednesday afternoons, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at Reno High School beginning November 2.  Rehearsals will take place on all Wednesdays that school is in session between our first rehearsal on Nov. 3 and our final performance on Feb. 4 (except Nov. 23 in observance of Thanksgiving break).  Transportation to and from rehearsals must be provided by individual families and students must be picked up promptly at the end of rehearsal.  There will be a tour of area Elementary Schools on Friday, February 4, and our final performance will take place on Saturday, February 5.

Since the success of the group depends upon all members attending every rehearsal, as well as participating in every concert, attendance at each rehearsal is required. What you need to audition:

1.      Prepare the attached music for your instrument.  Be prepared to sight read a short excerpt. Observe tempo and articulation marks, and any other signs in all excerpts.

2.   Fill out your information sheet, have your school orchestra teacher sign it, and bring it to your audition for registration. You will not be able to audition without a teacher signature.

Your teacher will notify you of the results within approximately a week after the audition date.

Students may audition any time October 19 from 2:30-5:00 at Sparks Middle School.
